The Nigerian Federal government is appealing to traders hoarding food items to make the commodities available to the citizens. The presidency has also directed the Minister of Agriculture to release 42,000 metric tones of maize, milet, garri and other commodities at strategic reserves.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris made the statement after the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention met at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Minister also told Journalists that the Association of Rice Millers have agreed to release 60,000 metric tones of rice, noting that all these measures are aimed at crashing the high cost of food prices. “if all this measures fail, the Federal government is not ruling out importing the commodities”.
