Activities have been grounded at train stations across Nigeria, following the implementation of a 3-day Warning Strike action by rail workers.
A visit to some stations in Abuja has indicated total compliance with the directive, contained in a circular made available to members, by the Nigeria Union of Railway Workers, an umbrella body, overseeing the activities of service providers at train stations.
The union and its affiliates had over time, demanded an improvement on their welfare package, and engaged the government, without reaching a common ground.
While the Nigerian Railway Corporation is yet to speak on the development, some passengers are forced to reschedule their movements or find alternative means of getting to their destinations.

Statistics indicate that Nigeria’s rail transportation system rakes in over 2.1 billion Naira in revenue in six months, and conveys nearly a million persons and cargoes daily.
