No fewer than three hundred and twenty houses have been destroyed by rainstorms in two communities of Nkarasi and Abinti in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident according to some eyewitnesses has rendered over two thousand five hundred people in the area homeless.
Already, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency in South South have visited the area to undertake some assessment.
Led by its Coordinator in the South South, Godwin Tepikor, NEMA said relief materials will be provided for the affected communities in the Local Government Area.

Confirming the level of damage as a result of the rainstorms, Chairman of Ikom local Government Area Kingsley Egumi, who also visited the affected communities, said natural disaster was inevitable, but assured that the Council authority will provide immediate relief materials in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency.
Egumi while calling for immediate response from the Federal Government,said the rainstorms have caused untold hardships to the victims as many are now homeless with makeshift shelters in the neighboring communities.
