Kano State Government has refuted news making the rounds in some sections of the media that it earmarked N6 billion to fund Iftar feeding programme in the month of Ramadan.
Director-General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sanusi Bature who made the clarification at a news briefing, announced the exact amount for the programme, adding that the fake news is aimed at giving the government a bad name.
To cater for the feeding needs of Almajiri, the physically challenged and less privileged members of the society who are also fasting in the holy month, Kano State Government embarked on daily feeding of about 1,000 people in over 100 location across eight local government areas of the state.
Bature says the State Government has also received food donations from the Federal Government which are set for distribution across the 44 local governments of the state.
Few days ago, Governor Abba Yusuf paid an unscheduled visit to one of the designated food centres where he expressed disappointment with the manner in which the Ramadan iftar food is being handled.
