Barely thirteen days to the expiration of the deadline for old Nigeria Naira notes to seize being accepted as legal tender, the Central Bank of Nigeria has directed commercial banks to ensure that their Automated Teller Machines, ATMs are dispensing the redesigned notes.

The Director of Medical Service of the Apex Bank gave the directive while leading a delegation for the sensitization campaign in Bauchi, warning those who are in the habit of hoarding money in their shops and houses to take them immediately to the bank before the expiration of the deadline.

The sensitization campaign began in the popular Wunti market where ATM machines were inspected as part of efforts to monitor the dispensing of the New Naira notes.

The team thereafter moved to Mararaban Liman Katagum within Bauchi local government to sensitize members of the communities on their market day.

While interacting with the leadership of the traders and some community members, questions were raised about the continued dispensing of the redesigned Naira notes in some Bank’s Automated Teller Machines (ATM) while others requested that the CBN deploys its staff across the LGAs to mitigate the effect of the short notice given to them.

The delegation of the Apex Bank informed the communities that, the redesigning of the Naira notes was in good faith, maintaining that for now there is no room for an extension of the deadline against the 31st day of January 2023.
