The kidnapped Prelate of the Methodist Church, His Eminence Samuel Uche, on Tuesday said, 100m Naira was paid as ransom before he was released.

At a press conference, the cleric said the monies were arranged in five sacks of 20 million Naira.

He said that the fund was raised by the Methodist Church in Nigeria.

He also claimed that neither the Federal nor State Governments nor the military or police intervened.

You could recall that the cleric who was kidnapped on Sunday in Abia State, was later released on Monday.

The Prelate had been kidnapped alongside two others, the Bishop of Methodist Church, Owerri Diocese, and the Prelate’s chaplain.

They were reportedly whisked away at about 2 pm on their way from a church programme in Okigwe, Imo State to Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The abductors had demanded a sum of 100 million Naira as a ransom for the Prelate, the Bishop of Owerri, Dennis Mark and the Prelate’s Chaplain, Shitti.

Recently some students from the Abia State University, Uturu, were abducted in the area, but later released.

The Abia State Police command had severally assured that security will be restored in the area, but nothing has changed.
