Journalists have been tasked with taking full responsibility for their safety while carrying out their work, especially in the face of rising security threats.
This was the submission at a forum organised in memory of eight journalists who lost their lives in 2007 while on a tour with the then-governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye. AIT’s Emmanuel Adinoye was among those who died.
May 16, 2007, will continue to remain a very dark one for journalists on the Plateau, losing eight members in one fell swoop following a ghastly motor accident.This forum was organised by the Plateau State Correspondent Chapel in memory of their lost colleagues and also to remind practicing journalists of the need to embrace safety rules in the course of their duties.

The guest speaker advocated for insurance coverage for media practitioners and for members of the society to also respect the role they play.
Other speakers at the forum called for better welfare packages for journalists as a way of bringing out the best in them.
Journalists were further advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle and take mental health seriously, considering the demands of their jobs.
