A one-day training workshop for Nigerian university students on technological innovations in renewable energy, waste-to-energy, green materials and sustainable agriculture has ended at the Enugu State University of Technology, ESUT, south-east Nigeria.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Eze urged the students to embrace innovations and entrepreneurship in the face of the impacts of exploration of fossil fuel on the environment.
Available statistics show that in Nigeria, about 95,000 deaths occur annually due to the exposure to smoke and other air pollutants from burning of solid fuels.
Millions more people are reported to suffer from eyes and chronic respiratory diseases as a result of these environmental activities.
It is for these that the guest lecturer, Associate Prof. Cosmas Anyanwu and the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Prof. Paul Nnamchi want the youth to channel their energy on technology, innovation, and sustainable developments, in order to finding lasting solutions to the emerging environmental and health challenges.
The programme featured the presentation of awards to some participants who won in various innovation and research works by the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom, and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT.
