The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has begun work on the damaged Yenagoa-Ahoada-Owerri Transmission Lines at Igbogene in Bayelsa State, South-South Nigeria.
Commissioner for Information, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai who went for an on-the-spot assessment visit, decried the activities of vandals and called on residents to be vigilant.
Yenagoa and environs have been in darkness since August 1 this year due to the damage of three transmission power towers in the state. The situation was worsened by recent acts of alleged vandalism in neighbouring Rivers State.
Koku-Obiyai was led on the visit by the Managing Director of Bayelsa Electricity Company, Olice Kemenanabo to inspect the damaged power facility at Igbogene where repair work had begun.
Both officials of the Bayelsa State Government were happy over the swift response by the TCN and urged people of the state not to politicise the matter.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Minister of Power, officials of the Bayelsa and Rivers State Government and the TCN had been scheduled to deliberate on ways to protect power assets in both states.
