Reps berates TCN over Discrepancies in generation and transmission figures

Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Monday berated the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over its inability to explain how power generated is evacuated, concluding that the GENCOs particularly Azura have been reneging on its agreement with NBET.

Chairman of the Committee on Finance, investigating the proposed sale of the Nigerian Integrated Power Project (NIPP), frowned at the inability of TCN officials to defend the figures Presented before the committee.

Faleke noted that the lawmakers are concerned about the erratic power supply in the country, while adding that Nigerians were willing to set up industry but lack of stable power supply has been an hindrance.

The lawmakers further berated the three Directors from the Transmission Company of Nigeria who represented the company for their inability to defend the details presented, adding that their seats were in danger for failing to represent Nigerians and their interest at TCN

The lawmakers accuse the TCN staff of trying to turn issues relating to power generation by Azura, which documents show is supposed to generate 450 Megawatt but hasn’t lived up to expectation.

The committee which is saddled with the responsibility of probing alleged breaches in agreement and perennial power failure in the sector, summoned the the managing director of the company, to appear before them unfailing, Tuesday, 23rd August.
