Nigeria’s House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the non- implementation of the pay-as-you- go subscription model by satellite television service providers has insisted on the pay as you go regime subscription.
The committee which took the position when the chief executive officer of Multichoice, John Ugbe appeared before its hearing also wants a reduction in the current hike in subscription charges.
The pay as you go model for cable television is a billing system that has been canvassed by many Nigerians who say it is a justification for their payment.
The lawmakers are worried that the call has not been adhered to by the management of Multichoice and other broadcast satellite service providers.
At the hearing, the lawmakers insisted that the pay as you go model should be adopted to ensure Nigerians have value for their money.
The chief executive officer of Multichoice Nigeria, John Ugbe explained that the pay as you go billing is not technically and commercially feasible in the pay-television industry.
With the failure to reach an agreement on the billing system and tariff review, the committee asked the chief executive officer of Multichoice to interface with the board of the organization and come up with an acceptable billing system and tariff for consumers.
