Reps Investigate Alleged Abuse Of N2.3Trn Education Fund In Nasarawa

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the alleged abuse of funds out of the 2.3 trillion naira tertiary education tax are currently searching the records of Nasarawa state for any clues of irregularities in expenditure.

The honourable Udem uyime led committee explained to the Nasarawa state government that the 2.3 trillion naira has a discrepancy of about five 5 billion naira between what the Federal Inland Revenue Service,FIRS remitted to Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TET-FUND) and what the fund claimed they received.

Financial transparency on government remittance and use of funds has been identified by many Nigerians as crucial especially with dwindling revenue

Following the discrepancy of about five billion naira under the education trust fund. Nasarawa state was one of the beneficiaries and The committe led by Hon. Udem uyime is seeking the government’s cooperation to access documents that would enable them evaluate what the state received and utilized between 2011 and 2023

Hon uyime noted that the committee will also interact with the heads of 5 tertiary institutions to ascertain their current challenges so that after their assignment, such issues will be tabled for consideration

The Nasarawa state Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe observed that indeed, what the house committee was doing in Nasarawa state is constitutional and timely as any recovery will benefit the nation

Akabe assured the lawmakers that the administration of governor Abdullahi sule will not tolerate situations where funds appropriated or disbursed are not used appropriately for Infrastructural development of tertiary institutions.

Akabe also decried poor TETFUND contractors’ projects execution habits which he said led to infrastructural decay in tertiary institutions across the country while urging the high-powered delegation to do the needful as the state government is also interested in result of their findings..

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the report of the ad-hoc committee would help the state immensely to assess the quality and performance of the management staff in its institutions
