As political defections and realignments gather momentum in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, Enugu State is experiencing its fair share of the shifting tides.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre appears to be the major beneficiary, while the Labour Party seems to be losing grounds.
The latest wave of defection has seen the APC welcoming Sunday Umeha, a sitting member of the House of Representatives representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency under the Labour Party, who was joined by a fellow party man and former Federal lawmaker, as well as over 10,000 former supporters of the Labour Party at an event in the Udi/Ezeagu Federal constituency.

Umeha told Journalists that the move is his way of supporting the APC-led Federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he credits for the ongoing infrastructure development in Enugu State and the South East zone of the country.
For the APC leaders, including the Nigerian Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji; the South East zone National Vice Chairman of the Party, Emma Enukwu and the State APC Chairman, Barr. Ugo Agballah, among others see the massive political party switch as a growing sign of discontent with the PDP’s leadership in Enugu State.
