Reps North-East Centre-B Public Hearing on Constitution Review kicks off in Maiduguri, Borno State

The House of Representatives North-East Centre-B Public Hearing by the Committee on the Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, has sat in Maiduguri, for Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States.

The Committee for the Northeast Centre-B is being led by Isa Ali, the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives.

The aim of the Public Hearings are:

  1. Ensure broader participation by Nigerians and other stakeholders.
  2. To foster the exchange of ideas, and
  3. To provide feedback to the members of the public on the Memoranda submitted, informing whether and how their concerns are being addressed.

Borno State’s Deputy Governor Usman Umar Kadafur who represented Governor Zulum, urged Nigerians to express their opinions to bring a more equitable and united Nigeria.

Usman Midala Balami represents Askira – Uba and Hawul Federal Constituencies at Nigeria’s House of Representatives spoke for the creation of Savannah State out of Borno.

The women also canvassed for inclusivity in the affairs of the country, among others.

The hearing later went into technical sessions, where the summarised compendium of bills, as well as position papers, were presented.

The Chairman of the Committee, North-East Centre-B applauded the turn out.
