Nigeria’s House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the zonal intervention and unspent funds by ministries, departments and agencies of government has queried the Nigeria Customs Service over-bloated figures in its capital components which is not in line with the approved budget.

The committee also queried the over one hundred and ninety- one jobs totalling over one billion naira which the agency approved in one day without due process.

The lawmakers who expressed worry at the irregularities in the financial statements of the Nigeria Customs Service also discovered that the agency has breached the public procurement act by allowing only three companies to carry out its contracts for the past ten years

The management of the service led by the Comptroller General, Hammeed Ali pleaded for more time to correct the discrepancies in the agency’s financial statements and promised to forward same immediately.
