Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has suspended the resumption of its planned nationwide strike until January 25, 2026.
The decision was reached during an Emergency National Executive Committee meeting held virtually on Sunday, January 11.
According to a summary released by the association, the NEC said the suspension followed extensive deliberations on the progress made so far in engagements with relevant authorities.
NARD has been at the forefront of negotiations with the Federal Government over issues bordering on welfare, working conditions, and the overall state of Nigeria’s health system.
The temporary suspension of the strike is expected to provide some relief to patients across public hospitals, even as uncertainty remains over the next steps should talks fail to yield concrete outcomes before the January 25 deadline.
