Residents of Kano State have cried out over the increase in the price of Rice, a common staple food, Correspondent of Ait.live reports that a 50kg bag of rice that was previously sold at 17,000 naira, now goes for 25,000 naira, The local one was also sold between 23,000 and 25,000 naira.
The hike in the prices have become worrisome to many, who say they can no longer afford the staple food on the table for their families, Some rice farmers and producers in Kano north, said that the reason for the hike was as a result of the high cost of milling machinery.
Others also attributed the price increase to the scarcity of fertilizer, as those available were sold at exorbitant prices to farmers.

The residents wondered why despite the pledge by government, to make the fertilizer available before rainfall, the promise was not kept.
