The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (Hyprep) has stated that the restoration of 560 hectares of mangroves in Ogoni land, Rivers State, is 75% completed.

The Hyprep Coordinator, Prof Zabbey Nenibarini, said this during the Project review meeting with key Ogoni stakeholders in Port Harcourt.

The meetings between the Hyprep project team and key stakeholders in Ogoni land are to intimate the leaders on the progress made so far and the successes recorded in the implementation of the Ogoni clean-up project in the year 2024.

Prof Nenibarini listed some of the projects executed and added that the ongoing Ogoni clean-up exercise has created 7, 000 direct and indirect jobs for the youths and women of the affected areas.

The Ogoni stakeholders commended Hyprep for the progress made, and also gave the Federal government a path on the back for its commitment through Hyprep to restore the Ogoni environment for the sustainable development of their communities.
