Retirees of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to persuade the managing director of the financial institution, Musa Dangiwa to immediately begin the payment of their pensions as ordered by two courts.
The pensioners, under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, at a protest say their ordeal began in 1993 when the federal mortgage financing was isolated from the Federal Mortgage Bank.
The senior citizens also argue that despite queries from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and correspondences from the Minister of works and housing as well as the Presidency, the current management of the Federal Mortgage Bank has remained adamant.

Worried that more of their members will die leaving liabilities for their families, the retirees called on all well meaning Nigerians to intervene on the matter.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Ahmed Kaoje in a swift reaction said only the federal executive Council can give approval to the demands of the pensioners.
