The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally rejected the impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
In a statement issued by the State Spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, the Party described the recent developments in the Rivers State House of Assembly as “unfortunate” and stressed that the party would not tolerate the spillover of previous external political strifes into the APC.
”The attention of the leadership of the APC in Rivers State has been drawn to the latest unfortunate developments within the chambers of the House of Assembly. We concede that the legislature is an independent arm of government with the constitutional responsibility of checks and balances; however, we solemnly reject the resort to impeachment against our Governor and his Deputy.”
Clarification on the Budgetary Dispute.
The APC clarified that the grounds for the impeachment—centered on budget presentations—are legally and factually untenable.
Nwauju reminded the public of the following timeline regarding the state’s finances:
He said in May 2025, a budget was transmitted to the National Assembly by the President under a six-month emergency rule which was approved by the senate in June while the House of
Representatives granted final approval for a total sum of ₦1.485 trillion in you 225.
”This budget is designed to run for one full year, ending in August 2026,” Nwauju explained.
“If the Governor is satisfied with this composition, he is not obligated to present a supplementary budget. Furthermore, the Constitution allows a six-month spending window into the new fiscal year.”
The Party leadership also called on all members of the House of Assembly, particularly those within the APC fold, to immediately discontinue the impeachment process.
The statement warned that such actions risk damaging the party’s reputation and stifling the state’s development.
