The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP , the Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress ADC have no candidates to contest the February 21 bye-elections to fill 2 vacant Rivers Assembly seats.
Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Gabriel Yomere,gave the indication while briefing Journalists on the electoral body’s preparation for the bye- elections for Khana Constituency 2 and Ahoada East Constituency 2 seats.
The two seats became vacant following the death of Dinebari Loolo, Rep. Khana Constituency 2 in September 2023 and Edison Ehie, who resigned in December 2023 to take up appointment as Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor.
Both seats have been vacant for more than two years.Yhe electorate in both Constituencies now have an opportunity to vote in replacements on the 21st of February.

Twelve candidates from seven political parties have secured a spot on the ballot for both seats.
The Rivers Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Gabriel Yomere explained that the exclusion of heavyweights like the PDP,ADC and Labour Party stemmed from various issues
On the logistics and preparedness for the election, the REC assured the public that the commission has perfected all requirements to ensure a smooth exercise
Professor Yomere added that all Supervisory Presiding Officers, SPOs, for the election are permanent staff of INEC and not Corp members.
