Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara says the enemies of the State wanted the people to experience what he describes as a ‘Black Christmas’ period with their evil attempt to stop his administration from accessing its funds from the Federation Account and Banks.
The Governor said despite the odds, his administration has, with a strong determination, met its obligations, especially the implementation of the N85,000 new minimum wage for workers, and successfully riding on its mantra of ‘Rivers people first’, to deliver good governance in the State.
Governor Fubara, who was speaking at the 2025-Armed Forces Emblem Appeal Fund launch, also disclosed that Rivers is the first State in the country to fully implement the new minimum wage, insisting that his administration will continue to put happiness in the minds of the people.

ait.live Correspondent in Port Harcourt reports that the Rivers State Government Secretariat was thrown into jubilation on Wednesday as the workers started receiving Bank credit alerts of their November salaries which figures reflected the new minimum wage.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara had a couple of weeks ago approved the sum of N85,000 as the new minimum wage for workers in the State service, with the assurance that the implementation will commence in the month of November, 2024.
The new monthly wage in Rivers State is N15,000 higher than the N70,000 approved by the Nigerian Federal Government.

The workers had waited with cautious optimism to see if the Governor would keep to his words, and to their amazement, their phones started buzzing with alerts of the new minimum wage from their various banks on Wednesday.
The new minimum wage comes with the yuletide around the corner, and at a time, Nigerians are groaning under severe economic hardship.

Governor Fubara insists that his administration’s number one priority is making the people happy and building legacies that generations to come will be proud of.
At Thursday’s event of launching of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund, Governor Fubara also called on Nigerians to support the widows, widowers and dependants of the gallant men and women who sacrifice their lives daily, so that the rest of us can live in a safe and peaceful country.
