The Chairman of the Rivers State independent electoral commission ,RSIEC, Michael Odey, has declared the result of the Chairmanship and Councillorship election on August 30,2025, with the opposition All Progressives Congress in the state winning twenty out of the twenty three local government areas, a near repeat of the party’s performance in the 2015 council poll conducted by the Chibuike Amaechi administration.

Michael Odey, while declaring the results of election, announced the Chairmanship candidates of the PDP as elected chairmen in Obio-Akpor local government area, Port Harcourt city local government area and Ogba/ Egbema/ Ndoni local government area.

Michael Odey commended Rivers people and the relevant agencies for ensuring a smooth conduct of the exercise.

Politicians who came to observe the declaration of the result, expressed delight with the performance of the All Progressives Congress, attributing it to what they described as good works of President Bola Tinubu.

Observers, applauded the electoral umpire for doing a near descent job but for some units where they had issues with no result sheets.

The RSIEC announced that the certificate of return, would be ready for presentation to the elected officers on September 1, 2025
