RIVERS

Nigerians across the country are usually greeted by activities to celebrate May 29th, a date synonymous with the change of guards in the country and most states, but in Rivers State, May 29th celebration was quite different in 2025.

While in one part of the city, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was suspended from office on March 18, 2025, following the declaration of state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu, met with supporters of the simplified movement for the first time recently, assuring them of better days, elsewhere the Rivers Women Unite for SIM, gathered to pray and sing praises to God for the peace in the state.

Rivers people would have loved to be greeted with an avalanche of activities to mark governor Fubara’s second year in office but for the state of emergency and his suspension from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, due to unresolved political crisis and alleged attacks on national assets in the state.

Unlike his first year which was flooded with flagging off and commissioning of projects, his second year was an opportunity to Inter phase with supporters for the first time where he assured them of better days and thanked President Tinubu for intervening in the crisis.

Elsewhere, Rivers women united for SIM,cladded in green attires, signifying harmony and freshness, gathered to sing praises and prayed to God for a quick return to democratic governance in the state.

According to the women, their gathering was not just for the governor and his team but to avert chaos in the state.

They are expectant that in the days ahead, the news that will filter into the state will bring unimaginable joy and celebration to Rivers people.
