Rivers State Government says efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state remain on track as Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday inspected the newly completed General Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
The inspection visit provided the Governor the opportunity to assess the quality of work at the facility, which is expected to serve thousands of residents in Obio-Akpor, one of the most populated local government areas in the country.
The new General Hospital is particularly significant because Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, despite its growing population and urban expansion, has long operated without a standard general hospital.
The project will greatly improve healthcare access for families in Rumuigbo and other neighbouring communities by providing services closer to the people.

The hospital further underscores the Fubara administration’s emphasis on projects aimed at improving the welfare and well-being of Rivers State people through sustainable investments in critical sectors.
Governor Fubara explained that the project forms part of his administration’s resolve to prioritise healthcare and ensure residents have access to modern medical facilities within their communities.
The new general hospital is being developed alongside the remodeling of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo into a modern specialist health institution, further transforming the area into a major healthcare hub in Rivers State.
The general hospital is also expected to boost medical manpower development, create employment opportunities for healthcare professionals, and support the government’s broader vision of building durable infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of citizens.
