Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the sudden death of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented the Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
In a statement released by the Government House, Governor Fubara described the late lawmaker as a brother, a consummate politician, and one of the leading lights of Rivers State politics.
He noted that Senator Mpigi’s death came at a critical time when his wealth of experience and service were still greatly needed by the people of the state.
The Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God Almighty to grant him eternal rest.
Governor Fubara also commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District, and members of the Senate, urging them to take solace in the impactful life he lived and the legacy of service he leaves behind.
Senator Mpigi died at the age of 64. Until his passing, he served as Chairman of Senate Committee on Works, where he played a key role in legislative oversight and national infrastructure development.
His death marks the end of a significant chapter in Rivers State’s political history.
