The Rivers State Government has given striking judicial workrs in the State up till the end of May to return to work or his administration would be forced to implement the ‘no work no pay rule.

Governor Wike who Tuesday gave the ultimatum at a valedictory court session held in honour of the retiring Chief Judge of the State, says there was no basis for the State chapter of JUSUN to join the strike as the issues in contention do not apply to Rivers State where the Judiciary is already enjoying financial autonomy and much improved staff welfare.

After attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 Adama Iyayi-Lamikanra is today bowing out as Chief Judge of Rivers State… a State where she also served for 35 years, first as a senior Magistrate grade one and later elevated to the high court bench and subsequently appointed and sworn in 2016 as the second woman and second non indigene to be chief judge of Rivers State.

Tuesday’s valedictory court session is to celebrate a soft spoken woman many including Governor Nyesom Wike describe as a courageous judge with a passion for truth, fairness and justice.

The occasion also presents Governor Wike the opportunity to voice his disappointment especially with members of the Nigerian Bar Association whom he says have developed a knack for maligning the State’s Judiciary with all sorts of allegations.

And with no end in sight to the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria nationwide, Governor Wike says his administration may be forced to wield the big stick if judicial workers in the State fail to resume work by the end of this month.

As she bows into retirement, Justice Adama Iyayi-Lamikanra says she’s a fulfilled woman in spite of the many blows she has suffered in life.

And as a reward for her good service, Governor Nyesom Wike on Tuesday presented Justice Adama Iyayi-Lamikanra the certificate of occupancy to a property built for her and keys to two vehicles.
