The Rivers State Government says it will in the coming days propose a bill to the state house of assembly to check mate the activities of persons parading themselves as traditional rulers or as government recognized traditional rulers .
Addressing the the 112th quarterly meeting of the rivers state council of traditional rulers, Governor Nyesom Wike says the move is necessary in order to protect the traditional institution from abuses especially by individuals who go about using certain titles and parading themselves as government recognized traditional rulers.

The gathering afforded Governor Wike the opportunity to speak on a number issues with particular emphasis on the need to preserve the age long integrity of the traditional institution.
The governor also used Tuesday’s meeting to respond to claims made by his Bayelsa State counterpart Seriake Dickson that he was promoting an Anti Ijaw agenda.
He says he will fight to protect whatever belongs to Rivers State irrespective of whoever is involved
