The Rivers State Government has commissioned a new Zonal Hospital in Omoku, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.
The 105-bed secondary healthcare facility is expected to improve access to medical services and reduce the need for residents to travel to Port Harcourt for specialist treatment.
For years, residents of Omoku and neighbouring communities requiring secondary or specialist medical care had to travel several kilometres to Port Harcourt.
The three-storey, 105-bed facility provides secondary healthcare services closer to the people, reducing the burden on patients and their families while also easing pressure on tertiary hospitals in Port Harcourt.
Cases that can be managed at the secondary level can now be treated closer to home, with the potential to improve timely access to care and reduce preventable deaths associated with delays in seeking medical attention.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the people must take ownership of the facility and ensure it is properly protected and maintained for generations to come.
The Governor also called on the media to always seek clarification before publishing information about his administration, warning against the circulation of false information.

The commissioning takes on added significance as the Governor invites the Oba of Ogbaland, Nwachuku Obi III, to inaugurate the project.
The traditional ruler commends Governor Fubara for bringing development to an area he says had been neglected and left at the backstreets of development.
He urged the administration to sustain the momentum of projects and development across Rivers State.
For the people of Omoku and surrounding communities, the new hospital is more than another government project.
It brings essential healthcare services closer to home—and offers a stronger chance of getting timely medical attention, reducing the risks associated with long journeys and delayed treatment.
