Despite the news of court orders trailing the conduct of the October fifth local government elections in Rivers state, the state independent electoral commission RSIEC has conducted what many Rivers people described as a peaceful election amidst protests by supporters of FCT minister Nyesom Wike.
The voters said the election was done in compliance with the supreme Court Ruling that barred state Governors from appointing care taker committees to run local governments.

Those who spoke on the sidelines of the elections reiterated that the conduct of the elections became necessary to meet the yearnings of those at the grassroots while describing those against it as enemies of the state.
You Wil recall that seventeen political parties indicated interest to participate in the election except the peoples Democratic party.
