Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the local government election will hold across the twenty- three local governments councils in Rivers state on Saturday fifth October, twenty twenty four.

The Chairman, Rivers state Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, unveiled the election timetable to stakeholders on Monday at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Rivers state has been embroiled in crisis since June seventeenth twenty twenty four when the tenure of elected local government chairmen elapsed owing to whether or not it was constitutional for the state governor to appoint caretaker committee chairmen to administer the councils pending the conduct of the election.

The altercations has led to the local council secretariats being taken over by the police to forestall breakdown of law and order.
