Nigeria’s House of representatives has succeeded in brokering peace between some host communities and oil companies in Rivers State over oil spill.
Members of the House Committee on Host Communities while on an on the spot assessment of situation in some host communities recommended that HYPREP should carry out the clean up, remediation and restoration of affected sites.

Chairman House committee on Host Communities, Dekor Dumnemene who led other members of the committee to /Mkpor/Bomu communities of Rivers state on a follow up on the spot assessment read out the resolutions of the committee to the parties warring parties while acknowledging the effort of the House of Representatives, further pledged their commitment to resolutions reached.
The house had in july 2021 following a petition from the affected communities mandated the committee to carry out an on the spot assessment of activities with a view to cleaning up the Oil spill which has caused devastating pollution in communities
