The Rivers state commissioner for health, Adaeze Oreh says, in the last four weeks, the state has had about sixteen suspected cases of acute watering diarrhoea across three communities in the coastal areas of Andoni local government area with associated two deaths.
Oreh made this known to journalists during a press briefing at the ministry of health in portharcourt.
Cholera is an accute diarrhoea illness caused by the ingestion of food or water that has been contaminated with bacteria.
It is a severe and rapid progressive disease that can lead to significant dehydration or even death if not treated properly
Following the Cholera outbreak in some parts of the country, the Rivers state commissioner for health Adaeze oreh during an update said Rivers state had recorded about sixteen suspected cases of accute watering diarrhoea across three communities in coastal areas of Andoni LGA with two associated deaths.
Though there are currently no active cases of any cholera outbreak or accute watering diarrhoea in the state, she said adequate measures have been put in place to support patients in case of eventuality
While assuring the people of the state government’s commitment to adequately support the response and contain the disease, she advised residents to practice good hygiene, ensure the safety of the water they drink and to regularly wash their hands with soap and clean water.
