The Rivers State Government has flagged off the construction of a 33.3 kilometre road that will connect three Local Government Areas in the State.

Governor Sim Fubara said the project will be paid for through the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), adding that his administration has already paid 50 per cent of the total cost of the project to the contractor.

The road construction is the second day into activities to mark Governor Sim Fubara’s first year in office

The 33.5-kilometre Elele to Omoku road cuts across three Local Government Areas of Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni

The Governor is also quick to acknowledge that the last 12 months have been challenging, even as he quickly affirmed that his administration will continue to make the people happy and give priority to their well-being.

Governor Fubara also used the occasion to condemn the attack on some persons who attended Tuesday’s commissioning of the Old Bori Road by hoodlums said to be acting on the instructions of the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area.

Governor Fubara had invited a statesman and former Senator, John Azuta-Mbata to perform the flag off of the road construction at the site.

While applauding Governor Fubara for his goods works and diligence and transparency with the State’s resources, Senator Mbata said he would continue to support his administration’s efforts to build a better and prosperous Rivers State.

The former Federal lawmaker also called on residents of the communities of Elele to Omoku where the road will run through to own the projects and give the contractor support to complete the road on schedule.
