Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara says his administration will do everything possible to ensure that all four state-owned tertiary institutions meet the requirements for accessing a backlog of over By 2billion intervention funds lying dormant at the Central Bank.
The Governor disclosed that with his administration is set to devote a large chunk of the 2025 budget to the education sector, noting the unaccessed funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) will go a long way in actualizing his administration’s goal of building a globally competitive education system.
Governor Fubara made this known when he hosted members of the House of Representatives Sub-Committee on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
The Federal lawmakers were in Rivers State on an oversight function to all the state-owned tertiary institutions.
Part of the Committee’s assignment is to ensure that the allocations made and interventions given to government-owned tertiary institutions through the TETFUND are accessed and used judiciously.

Through the oversight duty, the House of Representatives sub committee members have reported that they have discovered that many of the state-owned tertiary institutions that are beneficiaries of the TETFUND have several billions of Naira of unaccessed funds lying dormant at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The situation is however better in Rivers State as all four state-owned institutions, the Rivers State University, the Ignatius Ajuru University, the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, and the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic have a combined total of N2billion still unaccessed.
Governor Sim Fubara has assured that his administration will quickly ensure that the funds are accessed and fully utilized by the institutions.
He said the state has done so much for the tertiary education sector, and will do more in the coming fiscal year.
With a focus on basic education, Governor Fubara says a large percentage of the 2025 budget will be devoted to the education sector.
Sim Fubara explained that the primary goal of his administration is to make the people happy by building a better, united, and prosperous Rivers State.
