RMAFC calls on critical sectors in Katsina state to diversify revenue generation drive

A 3 day Assessment of diversification workshop organized for some major revenue earning government ministries, departments and agencies begin in Katsina State with a call on them to braze up by effectively and efficiently diversifying their revenue generation drive.

Secretary to the Katsina State Government Mustapha Inuwa who made the call while declaring the workshop opened stressed that it is apt considering the negative effects of covid-19 disease on the national economy.

Represented by the commissioner for science and technology Dr. Rabe Nasir, the Secretary to the state government Mustapha Inuwa hinted that with the workshop organised by the Revenue mobilization and fiscal allocation commission, the need for economic diversifications aimed at looking inwards to boost the revenue of the state and nation as whole, cannot be overemphasized.

According to him, knowledge acquired during the workshop will enable the different agencies to swing into action to begin seeking ways to boost the internally generated revenue of the state by tapping into areas neglected in the past such as Agriculture, ICT, land, tourism, markets, vehicle and road use among others.

Also Speaking during the ceremony, the federal commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization And Fiscal Allocation Commission Prof. Isah Muhammed represented by the Director mobilization in the commission and team leader to katsina state Ahmed Maikano, hinted that they were on assessment tour to different selected States to review revenue drives from 2014 to 2019 and their performances.

He added that, at the end of the workshop, the different state governments and participants would have been armed with various techniques and knowledge towards seeking ways from dependent on oil revenue which is fast dwindling and affecting the federal allocations to other sources.

The workshop will also give the state an opportunity to showcase all the mineral deposits and resources it has with a view, to seek more advice on better ways to maximize those potentials.
