Road Accident: FRSC confirms death of nine passengers along Calabar -Itu bad road

No fewer than nine persons have been confirmed dead following a ghastly auto crash that occured at Okrikang area of Calabar-Itu Highway.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Cross River State, Cyprian Ofordu who confirmed the incident said 12 persons were involved but nine persons died on the spot while 3 others were rescued and rushed to the intensive care unit of the Teaching Hospital, Calabar.

The Calabar – Itu Highway has been a death trap for commutters due to the bad state of the road without serious government intervention.

The State Road Safety Boss, explained that two vehicles were involved in the accident including a MACK truck and a Toyota Hiace bus with 12 occupants.

Ofordu said crash investigators were at the scene and will come up with their report as soon as possible to establish the cause of the accident

He said those involved in the crash were three female and 9 male , but two females and 7 male died on the spot.The corpse of those who died have been deposited at the mortuary he added.
