Umutu Bridge along Agbor-Abraka-Eku Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, South-South Nigeria has collapsed.

The age-long bridge gave way as a truck conveying a bulldozer was passing on it towards the Agbor.



The Agbor-Abraka-Eku Road links many communities in the state and connects the people with other parts of the country, particularly the Northern and South Eastern states.
In a phone chat, the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Ochor Christopher Ochor, who represents Ukwuani Constituency, regretted that the Federal Government has not given attention to such an important road in his constituency.

Ochor described the collapse of the bridge as unfortunate and sympathised with the stranded motorists and passengers for the hardship they have been subjected to.
The Deputy Speaker disclosed that he had already contacted the Delta State Commissioner for Works in charge of Urban and Highway roads, Neol Omodion who promised to take necessary steps in addressing the ugly situation.
Ochor also stressed the need to beef up security in the area to protect lives and property of the stranded travellers.
The Deputy Speaker spoke on the need for the reconstruction of the road by the Federal Government due to its strategic position to the socio economic development of the area.
