Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr, says his team is not the best in Africa, despite accepting a new deal which expects him to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Rohr will remain in charge of the 3-time African champions for the next two-and-a-half years after agreeing terms on a new contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The German tactician has also been mandated to qualify the team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Former Gabon and Niger Republic Coach believes winning the AFCON 2021 title will be difficult, though not impossible. Rohr said whenever any team goes for a tournament its ambition is to win

He said Nigeria finished third in the last edition, and everybody expects us to progress but also knows that it is very difficult to win the next edition because the Super Eagles are not number one in Africa. Rohr, however, agreed that it is good to have milestones and ambitions but one must work hard towards them.

The 66-year-old also stated that he is prepared for the task ahead and to meet the targets set for him by the NFF.

The coach further revealed that any contract is a risk because it is finished when the team is eliminated from a competition – whether the AFCON or World Cup.

Rohr, who was appointed Super Eagles Head Coach in August 2016, guided the team to a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. He also helped the country qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with the team failing to get past the first round.
