Former Nigerian internationals Nosa Igiebor and Juwon Oshaniwa have added their voices to growing calls for football authorities in the country to invest more in grassroots development.
The two players, both members of Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON-winning squad, made the appeal at the 2025 Awards and Gala of the Rising Stars Football League, RSFL — a grassroots football platform dedicated to creating pathways for young, aspiring footballers.
Emmanuel Ayodele who now ply is pro trade with NPFL side, Niger tornadoes was named the 2024 RSFL player of the year.

RSFL Coordinator, Ifeanyi Kama, also joined the call for increased investment in grassroots football. He urged stakeholders to collaborate with the RSFL to expand opportunities that will enable young talents to grow and thrive.

With renewed advocacy from ex-internationals and grassroots organisers, expectations are rising for more concrete action to strengthen the foundation of Nigerian football.
As the push continues, all eyes are now on football authorities to match these calls with meaningful investment and sustained commitment.
