The continuous attacks by bandits and kidnappers have rendered thousands of people homeless and without sources of livelihood in Niger state, north central Nigeria.
Most hit are Shiroro, Munya and Rafi local government areas of the state.
The federal government has in this regard, been called upon to intensify efforts to overcome the insecurity especially in Niger-east senatorial district.
In 2016, the security situation began to deteriorate with attacks on Allawa, where kidnapping and cattle rustling took place and Ransoms paid.

President of the Pan-Gbagyi association, Danjuma Paikono says since 2018, no day passes without villages being attacked and women raped in the local government areas of the senatorial district.
Vice president of the Gbegnu Boknu Yakwo association, David Zegi who also confirmed the worsening security situation says sensitization on the need for the internally displaced persons to continue to cultivate healthy habits is a priority
President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the air force to conduct massive air attacks on the forests in Niger state where the bandits are believed to have their operational bases.
