A former National Trustee of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Salimon Oladiti, has emerged as the new President of the union.
Oladiti was elected at the union’s 6th Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Lagos.
Also, a former Chairman of the Oil and Gas Supply branch, Akin Oladejo, was elected Deputy President.
Meanwhile, The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has urged the newly elected President of NUPENG, Salimon Oladiti, to build on the legacies of his immediate predecessor, Williams Akporeha.
Represented by the Director of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations, Falonipe Amos, the Minister of Labour, who recalled the warm and harmonious relationship in the industry between NUPENG and players in the midstream, downstream and upstream sectors, urged the new President of NUPENG and his team to sustain the template of cordial industrial relations.
He maintained that while pushing for the interest of their members, particularly in the area of better welfare, dialogue should not be disregarded in favour of confrontation.
In his acceptance speech, Oladiti, who commended his predecessor for his landmark achievements, which included better remuneration, a befitting edifice as national secretariat of the union, health and life insurance for union staff, and an insurance scheme for tanker drivers, among others, assured members that his leadership was determined to take the union to greater heights.
Oladiti and 15 others were elected unopposed for a four-year term as national officers of the umbrella body of junior workers in the oil and gas sector in the country.
