Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace competence, capacity, and character as essential values for nation-building, saying the future of Kwara State and Nigeria depends largely on young people.

Saraki cautioned against blind political followership, advising youths to support only leaders with proven character and competence in advancing national development.

He spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, at an event organised by the Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party youths to mark his 63rd birthday.

Saraki said no society can make meaningful progress without prioritising its largest demographic, noting that youths, who make up about 70 per cent of Nigeria’s population, deserve seats at decision-making tables by right, not by privilege.

He also expressed optimism that the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party would soon be resolved, revealing that reconciliation talks involving the party’s factions are ongoing at the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The former Kwara State Governor assured that the party would rebound and provide credible leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections, while again urging youths to choose leaders with the competence, capacity, and character to genuinely protect their interests.
