The people of Osun State trooped out Saturday in their numbers to cast their votes in local government election.

Correspondent Olatunde Olajide reports that the election was peaceful in polling units visited despite earlier warnings about possible violence by the police.

Residents came out to exercise their civic responsibility without any form of harassment or intimidation.

Governor Ademola Adeleke who cast his votes at Ward 9 unit 2, Sagba Abogunde in Ede North commended the peaceful conduct of the election.

The exercise was also peaceful at polling units visited by AIT reporter in Ede, Egbedore, Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda and Osogbo local government areas

There was, however, low turn out of voters in some other local government areas due to security concerns.

Security agents were seen positioned at strategic locations across the state.

The conduct of the council polls generated controversy a few days ago, leading to tension in the state with the police authority calling for the suspension of exercise.
