Saudi King donates food worth $1.2 billion to Zamfara bandit victims

Over thirty thousand households of victims of banditry in Zamfara State now have reason to smile as King Salman of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia donated food items worth over $1.2 billion dollars to them.

The Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Air Vice Marshal, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed retired, who officially flagged off the distribution of the assorted food items at Sunami Community, in Gusau Local Government Area said, a total of 8,725 food baskets will be given to households in camps and affected communities.

He said each household is expected to receive 59.8 kilogram of food which include rice, white iron beans, Massa product, tomato, salt, maggie and vegetable oil.

Zamfara State currently has over 180,000 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, as a result of the activities of bandits and flood disaster which hit the State last year.

The Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed retired who was represented by the Deputy Director Planning, Fatima Kasim, said the agency with other relevant stakeholders will ensure proper distribution of the items.

Governor Bello Mohammed of Zamfara State, represented by the Commissioner For Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Fa’ika Ahmed, hinted that there are over 30,000 households of victims of banditry, which amounted to 180,000 displaced persons, including men, women and children.

This is the first time that victims of banditry activities in Zamfara State will receive relief materials from King Salman of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia foundation to alleviate the sufferings of the affected communities in the State.
