The leadership of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, recognised by INEC records, has expelled key figures linked to a rival faction that conducted a parallel convention in Bauchi two weeks ago.
Those expelled over alleged anti-party activities include factional national chairman , the party’s 2023 presidential candidate and National Secretary , among others.
The decision was reached during a closed-door meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, shortly before the commencement of its convention in Abuja.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the party’s National Welfare Secretary, Judith Shuaibu, said the NEC approved the expulsion of about ten members accused of actions considered harmful to the unity and stability of the party.

According to her, the party leadership is seeking to rebuild cohesion after months of internal disputes and competing claims to authority.
Also speaking, National Chairman said the party remained open to reconciliation with members willing to align with its leadership structure and constitution.
He also commended the media for its continued coverage of party activities and acknowledged the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at the proceedings.
