A prominent Nigerian politician and Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial Zone, Godiya Akwashiki, is dead.

Akwashiki died at the age of 52 on Wednesday night after a prolonged illness while receiving treatment in a hospital in India.

Former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe, confirmed the death in a statement issued in Lafia. He disclosed that the late senator had been ill for some time and was taken abroad for medical treatment before his passing.

Balarabe described Akwashiki’s death as a great loss to Eggon land, Nasarawa State, and the country at large, noting that the late lawmaker contributed significantly to democratic governance and legislative development.
