The Imo State Government has released the sum of Six hundred million Naira (N600m) to families of fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price, as well as injured soldiers in the defence of the nation.
Speaking shortly after laying the wreath during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day ceremony at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri, Governor Hope Uzodinma reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to the welfare of families left behind by fallen heroes.

He assured that the support would be sustained as a mark of honour and gratitude for their sacrifice to the nation.
Uzodinma noted that the courage and patriotism displayed by members of the Armed Forces must never be forgotten, stressing that government owes them a duty of care both in service and in death.
The Governor while commanding the security agencies for their resilience and professionalism in safeguarding lives and property, also praised President Bola Tinubu for his decisive actions in strengthening and repositioning the nation’s security architecture to address emerging challenges.
For the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, the true way to honour fallen heroes is by caring for the living and consistently supporting the families they left behind.
The Governor spoke on Thursday at the Cenotaph Arena, Okpara Square, Enugu, during activities marking this year’s Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, attended by serving and retired military officers, widows of fallen heroes, and members of the public.
Governor Mbah said the sacrifices of the Armed Forces must remain in the nation’s conscience, noting that the security enjoyed in Enugu State is driven not by force alone, but by civic responsibility and shared commitment.
The ex-servicemen and widows of fallen soldiers, appealed to the authorities that the ritual honour should go beyond ceremonies to sustained support that improves lives, long after the annual remembrance.
Also from Awka, the Anambra State capital is a report that Governor Chukwuma Soludo used the occasion of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, to appeal to Youths from the South East zone of the country to join the military and other para-military Agencies.
Gov. Soludo said the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day remains a significant moment, reflecting on the sacrifices made by those who died in the unfortunate civil war that ended fifty-six years ago, and other circumstances during active service.
Speaking at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka after the inspection of Guards and laying of wreath on the foot of the statue of an unknown soldier, Gov. Soludo commended members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, acknowledging their restless role in the security of the Nigerian people.
