The compliance level to the order which would have entered its fourth day this Thursday, keeps dropping, thanks to the vigorous public campaigns to end the lockdown, as well as the new security architecture put in place by the authorities, which has further boosted people’s confidence.
Residents say, they took their destinies in their own hands as the purported two weeks sit at home action ordered by the controversial Finland based pro-biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, in the five South eastern states of the country, would have crippled the economy and imposed more hardships on the people.
In Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, normal commercial activities have been going on, despite unfounded rumours and propaganda by suspected members of the proscribed IPOB.
Residents told AIT this Thursday, that the civil action would not work this time because of its adverse effects on their lives.
It is a similar story in Ebonyi State as the capital city, Abakaliki is full of life with residents going about their activities unhindered.
Yet, all is not well for these inter-state transporters who are still groaning on the biting effects already inflicted on their pockets by the over two years of the past sit-at-home actions.
And, from Enugu State, more residents appear to now brave their fears to open their shops and other business premises after a prolonged regular sit-at-home actions.
This Thursday witnessed a higher number of early morning vehicular and human movements on the streets within the metropolis since Monday.
Afam Agu, an Enugu resident, thinks the present economic hardship might have contributed to people’s courage.
But, all these positive developments on the side of citizens may not be without concerns on the fate of their security and wellbeing, as the the continued downward economic trend in the country could further complicate and compromise social securities.
