There is now a heavy security presence at the Labour Party’s national secretariat in Abuja as law enforcement personnel have been deployed to maintain order following security breach at the Secretariat on Tuesday night.

AIT_Online earlier reported that the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party has taken a new dimension as the party’s national secretariat was reportedly vandalised just hours after Senator Nenadi Usman resumed office as Interim National Chairman.

The incident, which occurred overnight, is believed to have been carried out by suspected thugs.

The incident has necessitated the deployment of security operatives to the party headquarters to quell the crisis.

Members of the party have accused loyalists of the Julius Abure faction of being responsible for the attack, alleging it is part of ongoing efforts to destabilise the new leadership.

However, the Abure faction, in a press statement, dismissed the claims and insisted it has regained control of the party’s national secretariat.

The group maintained that Senator Nenadi Usman cannot lead the party.

The development comes despite a January 21 ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, which ordered the recognition of Senator Nenadi Usman as Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has since complied with the court’s directive.

The latest incident signals a deepening leadership battle within the Labour Party, raising concerns over the party’s unity ahead of future political engagements.
